Built by a RenterWho'd Had Enough
Rentrieve was born from personal frustration with landlords who keep deposits they have no right to.

Every single place I've ever rented, the landlord tried to keep my deposit. Every. Single. Time.
And most of the time, I left the place in better shape than when it was given to me. I'd clean everything, patch nail holes, even touch up paint. Didn't matter. There was always some excuse — "carpet wear," "cleaning fees," charges for things that were already damaged when I moved in.
At first I thought it was just bad luck. But then I started talking to friends, family, coworkers. The same thing was happening to almost everyone. Landlords keeping hundreds or thousands of dollars that weren't theirs to keep, banking on the fact that most people won't fight back.
“If they're doing this to me, they must be doing it to millions of others.”
That realization is what started everything.
So I took matters into my own hands. I started writing my own demand letters, citing Texas statutes and laying out exactly what my landlords owed me. And when the demand letter wasn't enough? I'd file in small claims court. In Texas, it's very inexpensive to file, and it gets their attention fast.
Here's the thing — I never once stepped foot in a courtroom. Not a single time. Every landlord settled before a court date was even set. The moment they see you've actually filed, they do the math and realize it's cheaper to just give you your damn deposit back than to fight it. They know they'll lose. That worked for me 100% of the time.
But I'm a tech guy at heart. And I knew most people don't have the time or know-how to research their state's deposit laws, write a proper demand letter, or figure out the small claims process. I wanted to build something that makes all of that effortless.
That's how Rentrieve was born. Using AI, we analyze your lease, your deduction letter, and your state's specific laws to find every violation your landlord committed. Then we generate a professional demand letter citing the exact statutes and penalties — all for $29. If the landlord still doesn't budge, we prepare your small claims court documents too.
To be clear
Rentrieve is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We're a document preparation service. We give you the tools and documents to advocate for yourself — the same way I did, just a whole lot easier.
It works. We've helped over 12,000 tenants recover more than $2.4 million in wrongfully withheld deposits. 85% of the time, landlords pay up once they see a demand letter that actually knows the law.
This isn't just a business for me. It's personal. Every time someone recovers their deposit through Rentrieve, that's one more landlord who learned they can't get away with it. And that makes it harder for them to do it to the next person.
Your landlord doesn't expect you to fight back. Let's prove them wrong.
